Swiss here. Mammograms were not banned. The Medical Board recommended fewer mammograms in 2014. It is still encouraged here to get one every 2 years.

My obgyn has been on me for almost a decade to get one. I refuse to do it.

Thermography is another alternative. That I did about 15 years ago and it’s an alternative available here.

Wouldn't it be wise to change the title after receiving this information?

Probably, yes - I’ll see how to ;~ …

Edit post → the change title.

You seem a bit blasé about it and I don’t really understand it. You translated an article without fact checking and posted it with an incorrect clickbait title. Then, when told about it, you are reluctant to change it because I see it is still the same. You want to be a writer known for clickbait titles and incorrect information?

The same applies to biopsies: if it's not cancer, there is no need for them, and if it is, they can spread it. Also, they can burst cysts, just like mammograms, as the article explains...

Expand full comment

Another important factor is false negatives, which can also happen, when a cyst is burst open. That's how my sister may have gotten killed at 32 in Canada. To be neglected, statistic figures are also often culpable; because of her age, she had a chance of one in ten thousand to have cancer; I don't know if she had it or it was the procedure that started it, but humans are not figures... Statistically, however, those who wear a bra 24/7 are allegedly three times more likely to develop breast cancer. Antiperspirants and deodorants are also highly discouraged, just like shaving the armpit...

You are more than welcome to use the info from me to compile a whole new article; I never steal ideas.

If you prefer, I can do it for both of us, but sooo many women fall victim to the pseudo-medical paradigm that it's revolting (been working with the butchers called doctors for several years in my life...).

Again thank you so much for your offer, I must (sadly) confess I have very limited time to write by myself; I contribue the best I can translating from French those articles I believe could be interesting or helpful (such as yours 😉).

Yes a lot of people fall victim, I’ve been myself for a minor part (unnecessary biopsy). Surprisingly, the doctor who made this biopsy was nearly upset to have to do it, saying that the guys in charge of interpreting the mammographies were always crying wolf for any little shadow, but that was ”juicy business”.

If only there were more doctors like this one !

And the Lidocaine they are using for biopsies is toxic...

Yup, and if women had sufficient iodine they would have fewer cysts and cancer. Iodine is required since it acts to open the door in glands which secrete. If the door doesn’t open you develop fibrocystic breasts.

Stefanie de Borba, a spokesperson for the non-profit Swiss Cancer Research:

"Switzerland does not prohibit mammograms, on the contrary, mammograms are the most important method for the early detection of breast cancer in women aged 50 and over. Other examination methods include clinical examination, ultrasound examinations and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Several Swiss cantons have already introduced or are introducing mammography screening programs for breast cancer. The Swiss Cancer League, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Swiss government (Federal Office of Public Health) all recommend the introduction of mammography screening programs."

I understand the author of the original article rejoyced too soon on the basis that the harmful effects of mammography begin to be told. Thanks for correcting... and let us all stay extremely cautious when our health is involved. When there is big money at stake, check where *your* interest are - not your ”dealer’s”...

Bravo Switzerland!

It's becoming apparent that many of these so called tests, the medical establishment recommends on a frequent basis, are nothing short of CON.

A 1 in 2 chance of misdiagnosis....how can this be legally scientific?

I wonder if the prostate check is valid either?

Exactly, I've just seen one for alzheimer testing, you can't do anything about that, no cure as yet. Just causes stress for the hypochondriacs. Gullibility you can oversee though, just have to be savvy, most of us are.

I have a close friend that after finding a lump went to her specialist who said it's fine leave it. Nope, years ago given good advice from an actual doctor "if you find a lump cut the bastard out and you won't have a lump and you will have plenty of meat for a biopsy" so had it removed. It was the rust. Two operations later 20mm (3/4 of an inch) of rust was removed.

During this time with the growth at that size one asperastion and TWO mammograms came back negative.

After she was heavily pushed to be irradiated and Tomoxifined. No to both and yes to Thermography.

I am an industrial plumber, I work with extremely heavy and dangerous materials and in uniformly dangerous environments. When I look at how a mammogram is performed I think jeeeesus that looks more like an industrial accident than health care. But what would I know I'm only a thick plumber and my freind is now two years in and still rust free.

An anecdote of course but one persons path.

Hi Troy,

First of all I’m happy your friend is OK now. Thanks for sharing, her path is far more than an anecdote, it means hope and courage to fight for many others.

Also, please don’t call yourself ”a thick plumber” ! Your profession is as valuable as any other (tbh : more than some…) and furthermore, you demonstrate a commitment and a sensible thinking that many so-called intellectuals lack.

I wish you the best to both of you !

I've never had a mammogram for the reasons stated. If I detect a lump, I'd do it, but radiation, which they always factor in on the invitation sheet with the nhs, doesn't entice me. I've worked in breast clinics, know the biopsy procedures, extracting fluid etc, these are necessary, but mammograms, particularly when done frequently, & in some cases, there are women with lumpy breast tissue, that has to be investigated, as it could be cancerous, but the mammograms frequently performed can be health damaging. I'm no scaremonger, not having a mammogram is my personal choice, I always do a breast check & would have one, if a lump was found, but won't have one as a so called health check, that we have in the UK, dye to the warning that the nhs makes us aware of, radiation is not healthy to healthy tissue

This really makes me furious. Being put through the wringer "just to check". Prescriptions written for HRT after declining. It's supposed to be diagnostic medicine but it's all checkboxes and conformity. Worse than Soviet systems I saw in Kazakhstan; both systems at their peak are doctors making political economy decisions - will I lose my post if I don't follow the Party?
