Smart elders, after receiving the 1st. call from inTouch, should install a direct aswer-line to ChatGPT, Grok or DeepSeek, just to avoid being bothered during a relaxing walk or sun-basking in their garden ...

Their offspring, once receiving the inTouch call-summary will be fully astonished and try their best to pop-over in person: Hi, you're all right ??? ...

I don't get calls from my kids anyway. Of greater interest to me is "deadman switch email." If I don't login and turn it off once a day, it lets someone know, something may be wrong. I have not subscribed yet.

Hi Ken, I’m sad to hear this. Family relations are seldom fairy tales... I’d say better someone ”not-of-the-family” who really cares than a ”mandatory” or false concern for convenience.

It's also not easy to find the right balance between the children's desire for reassurance and the parents' desire for autonomy. Ultimately, what matters most is that we all be honest... and truly consider what matters most to the person concerned.

Take good care of yourself ! 🫠

I think you will find there are far more seniors in my position than you would ever think. In any case, I would be offended by a call from an AI.

Yes, I’m convinced you’re unfortunately right. I won’t say ”nobody cares”, but few do really care... And I totally share your feeling about this IA stuff : it’s an insult, and the height of hypocrisy.

My 96-year-old mum has (besides good neighbours !) a kind of ”pendant” that can make an emergency call if she falls. I think it's a good precaution.

I'm fortunately not that old yet. My 96-year-old father was saved three times by one of those, and here I'll share a bit of knowledge. It depends what the pendant is tied-to. Those connected to a landline will locate the wearer accurately, but we never found one that generates an accurate GPS position while connected to the cell network.

I mean to say it located him away down the street.

Aw. My mother’s one (landline) doesn’t work beyond about ten meters outside her house. She felt last tuesday while having a walk (happily not too seriously wounded !) , and I was just considering to upgrade for a GPS system...

Thanks for your advice. I think I’ll try though - better imperfect than nothing... 🫤
