Today, ailments such as chronic pain, inflammatory diseases, and mood disorders including depression and anxiety are on the rise.
An estimated 20.9% of adults suffered from chronic pain, or 51.6 million people in 2021. According to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) statistics , another 6.9%, or 17.1 million of people suffered from high-impact chronic pain . Nearly 125 million people live with a chronic inflammatory disease, and depression affects more than 18 million adults today .
For many of these ailments, conventional medicine responds with medication, surgery, or both. What if there was a better solution? A way to help your body heal naturally and avoid more invasive treatments?
Pulsed electromagnetic frequency (PEMF) is a therapy that has been around for over a century and is increasingly used in clinics and hospitals to treat a wide range of ailments such as pain, inflammation, scarring wounds and bone repair, as well as psychological disorders like depression, making it a potential option for people seeking an alternative to medications and surgery, or for anyone who has not found relief with conventional treatments.
What is PEMF therapy and how does it work?
PEMF therapy is a type of non-invasive energy medicine that directs pulsed magnetic fields into the body to optimize cellular function and stimulate the body's innate healing abilities.
PEMF therapy is often used to improve immune system function, circulation, bone healing, and speed healing after injury. It is also used to boost energy, improve sleep and relieve stress.
In the book PEMF-The Fifth Element of Health , author Bryant A. Myers, a former physics professor and leading expert in the field of energy medicine, describes PEMF therapy:
” PEMF therapy can be thought of as “whole body battery recharging.” By using a PEMF therapy mat just twice a day for eight minutes, you recharge your 100 trillion cells, improving ATP [adenosine triphosphate] production, increasing oxygenation, improving circulation, promoting hydration, facilitating detoxification and achieving better overall nutrient absorption. It's like putting tiny jumper cables on all the cells and restarting them to get healthy again. ”
The pulses used in PEMF therapy occur at very low frequencies that can penetrate the skin and reach our tissues at the cellular level. This activates our cells and stimulates our body's natural healing and repair mechanisms.
PEMF was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in 1979 for the healing of nonunion fractures, that is, fractures that do not heal completely due to various factors, including a decrease in blood circulation. Since then, PEMF has been approved for a variety of conditions, including reducing postoperative swelling and pain, as an adjunct to cervical fusion , for treatment-resistant depression, and for the treatment of certain types of cancer (particularly recurrent glioblastoma). and metastatic malignant pleural mesothelioma).
Dini Rucker, owner of Florida PEMF in Bradenton, Florida, explained to The Epoch Times that PEMF is a “non-invasive therapy that helps the body heal and recover.” PEMF recharges cells, and when you have cellular dysfunction, you have pain and inflammation.” He also noted that PEMF works by helping optimize our cells.
PEMF emulates the Earth's natural magnetic field, which is essential for life and as important to human health as food , water, sleep and sunlight . According to Mr. Myer's book, this field includes Schumann resonance and geomagnetic frequencies.
We used to be much more connected to this natural healing energy from the earth, but over time and with the advent of rubber-soled shoes (which disconnect us from this energy) and the passing of more and more more time indoors, we have lost much of that connection with the healing energies of the earth. As a result, we face an increasing number of health problems.
Another reason we receive less healing energy from Earth is that this field has weakened over time. In his book, Mr. Myers claims that over the past 300 years, the Earth's magnetic field has decreased by about 50%.
Researched and used by NASA
Mr. Myers explains in his book that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has been studying PEMF for some time because of its importance to astronauts while in space:
” Outer space is an environment that provides very negligible amounts of terrestrial PEMFs. The further we move away from the Earth's ionosphere, the more the magnetic fields and the Schumann resonance decrease. By necessity, NASA and the Russian space program have equipped their spacecraft, shuttles, and/or suits with magnetic or Schumann field generators to simulate Earth conditions.”
NASA research demonstrated that when astronauts left Earth's atmosphere, they developed significant health problems due to their disconnection from Earth's electromagnetic field, including bone loss and muscle atrophy.
Studies by NASA have explored the effects of PEMF on human physiology, and scientists at NASA's Johnson Space Center have developed a device that can stimulate cartilage regeneration by promoting the growth of new cartilage in the synovial joints using PEMF.
PEMF therapy in the clinic
Chianni Lin, who holds a doctorate in acupuncture and oriental medicine and founder of the Center for Acupuncture & Anti-Aging Medicine in Santa Monica, California, incorporates PEMF therapy into all of her acupuncture and integrative medicine treatments and says that all the therapeutic beds in its center are equipped with CEMP mats. She described the results to The Epoch Times :
” These integrated treatments have resulted in accelerated pain management, stress reduction, improved sleep and relaxation, and reduced inflammation. ”
She also described what happens during a typical treatment:
”PEMF is integrated into our therapies. The patient lies on a therapy table with the PEMF mat placed under the normal mat, sheets and blankets. An acupuncture and integrative medicine session generally lasts one hour. Patients may relax or often sleep during treatment. ”
Rucker says most of his clients suffer from pain due to age or surgical procedures. He tells The Epoch Times that they say they feel better – that they are in a better mood or that they feel less pain – and that he gets this response in 80 to 90% of cases. He also noted that although his clients are primarily humans, animals respond even more quickly to PEMF therapy.
Furthermore, PEMF therapy has also been used in veterinary medicine for decades, particularly on horses recovering from leg injuries and dogs recovering from spinal injuries or following surgery. .
In addition to being beneficial for a variety of specific conditions, Dr. Lin noted that PEMF can be used for general health and wellness in the clinic:
An often overlooked aspect is the role of PEMF therapy in improving overall well-being, not just treating specific ailments. It can improve sleep quality, reduce stress and increase energy levels, contributing to a better quality of life. We believe that when combined with acupuncture, herbal medicine and integrative therapies, PEMF can significantly improve the health of our patients.
PEMF therapy is delivered using devices including full-body mats that one lies on, smaller mats, and more local devices like wands or bands that can target a specific area and direct electromagnetic fields pulsed towards the site of an injury or wound that is slow to heal. PEMF devices can be purchased for use at home. There are different types of devices and their prices vary depending on several factors, such as the intensity and frequency they deliver, as well as their portability; so be sure to do your research to ensure you get the best device for your specific needs.
PEMF Studies
PEMF therapy has been the subject of much research, and a search on the topic in the PubMed database yields nearly 1,500 results . The following studies demonstrate the effectiveness of PEMF therapy for various ailments.
Perhaps one of the most common uses of PEMF therapy is for pain relief.
– A double-blind, randomized pilot trial demonstrated that one month of PEMF treatment reduced pain and improved functional performance in patients suffering from osteoarthritis.
– A study published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal showed that PEMF significantly reduced pain and swelling after plastic surgery. The authors concluded that PEMF is “a powerful tool, with no known side effects, for the complementary, non-invasive, non-pharmacological management of postoperative pain and edema.”
– In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial , targeted PEMF was used on patients who underwent breast reconstruction surgery. Targeted PEMF reduced pain by 50%, edema by more than 40%, interleukin-1β (a marker of inflammation) by 40%, and painkiller use was reduced by 50%. after surgical procedures. The researchers concluded that “adjuvant pulsed electromagnetic field therapy could impact the speed and quality of wound healing in many surgical procedures.”
Studies also show that PEMF therapy is beneficial for people with depression.
– According to a multicenter study published in 2020 in the journal European Psychiatry , transcranial PEMF therapy, or T-PEMF therapy, was found to be a beneficial adjunct treatment to ongoing drug therapy in patients with treatment-resistant depression .
Studies have even shown that PEMF therapy can have an effect on organ regeneration.
– Two different studies in rats showed that using very low frequency (ELF) PEMF resulted in faster liver regeneration in rats that had undergone partial liver removal.
Final Thoughts
In an age where our ailments are increasingly treated with invasive therapies such as drugs and surgery, PEMF therapy demonstrates that we can harness the healing power inherent in each of us by replicating simply the same frequencies as those emitted by the planet that gives us life.
Dr. Linus Pauling, two-time Nobel Prize winner , had this to say about PEMF therapy:
PEMF benefits humanity, from infants to the elderly. PEMF will lead to a paradigm shift in medicine.
More and more people are adopting natural solutions to heal their body, mind and soul, and this paradigm shift may be closer than we think.
